I have built several climbing Gyms (woodies) and they are not difficult. One was even adjustable, the angles were able to be changed using hinges and 4x8' panels with an A frame construction to lock it all in place. The key is to buy everything in bulk, such as the T nuts, which are the anchors used to bolt the holds to. I still have a couple hundred holds and been debating on building a new wall at my new off the grid location. If not I may let them go cheap. You can cast your own holds if you like, a very smelly and toxic job. Reclaimed lumber also would help to keep the cost down, such as an old barn. Most stick frame houses can be retrofitted with exterior plywood on the outside to create an outdoor wall, since most interior walls just are not high enough. A dome I believe would work, but most of your climb would be past vertical since you need a clear fall space. Being an avid climber in the past I loved past vertical, but this is for the experienced climber and not the beginner. What ever you decide on make it versatile or boredom may set in within a short time and then all you will have is a nice conversation piece.

Dangit! Jamie.... Just tell us what the Super Secret 4th Floor will be... I have been wondering about that for about a year already. I mean, your eventually going to let the cat out of the bag anyways. Why are you torturing us?

Do you hate us or something?

There is actually a video of Jaimie on the super secret fourth floor. He is checking out the roof and solar panels after returning from being away for a while. I can't recall the title, but it must have been posted in the spring sometime.

Thanks for the great advice! The gym won't be a dome, it will be stick frame with 2-2.5 storey interior walls for the climbing space.
