SO MANLY I SPELT IT WRONG

Okay, this thread will archive projects I have completed in the past and follow projects i'm doing at the present and in the future.

Its late now, so I'll just start off my showing this bird house I made in the past. Its in a youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbTuUfPp2UQ

Hey guys, I have a question about electronics.

One project ive been intending to do is something simple: make a circuit which makes an LED flash exactly every 0.6 seconds. Ive made simple LED flashing circuits in high school but I don't know how to precisely control the flashing to make it 0.6 seconds. Can you guys tell me how I do this? Do I need some kind of special microchip, or hook up a chip to a resistor of precise resistance value, or use come capacitor with some kind of frequency or what?

Assuming this isn't for a high noise environment, I would get the smallest micro-controller that I could find to do this. One that uses an internal oscillator with just a simple RC circuit would probably do.

Is that neccesary? Surely there must be something more simple to just make an led flash every 0.6 seconds. I don't wish to overcomplicate it.

I am sure you could come up with a simple circuit design. If you have the programmer for a processor and a tiny processor, it is simple and cheap, but I wouldn't buy a programmer just to do this.

Yeah, a microcontroller or something would just be too expensive for something so simple.

Just waiting for the opnion of some electronics-knowing-guy some time soon..

I learned about these 4 years ago: http://wild-bohemian.com/electronics/flasher.html. Just have a variable resistor instead of 100k resistors to tweak it, I have seen a classmate making it work.

What's your definition of "precisely" here? Most cheap designs would start with a 555 timer chip, which is analog and therefore a bit on the variable side, but very cheap and easy to implement.

Ah, a 555 timer is an excellent idea.

Correct to within 0.6 seconds every 2 minutes, or even better if possible, 15 minutes.
