Train crash? Heh... Sounds familiar. I did see a wood carving CNC router made with drawer slides on YouTube once, took a lot of tinkering to get right. Still, I don't think it will last long though.
He did go with ball bearings on aluminum rails to replace that, good step in the right direction! He welded them in place anyway, though I do hope he tries it eventually. I think he'll probably get some deformation of the aluminum because of the difference in the hardness of the materials. Who knows? Might work fine the way it is, though my money is on him bolting something harder (like cold rolled steel) to the aluminum rails in the long run.

ICH! Cold rolled steel = rust. Instantly. I work with it almost every day. It rusts in air, without even getting wet. If you get it wet, it rusts in <5 minutes. Terrible terrible stuff. :lol: :lol:

Hmm, good point. Got a tough surface though, might do okay if it were greased regularly. Well, we'll see! Hopefully...
