Hey guys!

Looks like some nice progress. That mdf stuff looks like it will hold.

As for myself, I already got most of the electronics done. I'm going to be running a geckodrive G540 with some nice nema23 keling stepmotors. I figured that the controller will need to be the best, as I intend to do small production runs and I want maximum accuracy. Motors and controller will be run on 48Volts.
I found someone selling a 15inch LCD for $20 at a yard sale. Money well spent.

I will construct the box, mount my E-stop switch, and get all of the goodies inside. Pictures when finished. :D

Hi, has anybody else had trouble tightening their linear bearings down?? It seems if I leave the bearings loose then run really smooth but when I tighten them up they run rough as if they are binding. Has anyone come across this?

linear bearings are generally kind of precise. So, if they aren't aligned they will bind up. If you have an indicator you can make a simple are that runs from a bearing block on one side to the rail on the other side to check if they are parallel. Also, check to make sure that there isn't any foreign material (burs, chips and crap) in between your bearing blocks and whatever you are mounting them to.

Everything is on its way. Ordered a 2HP vertical Dust collector. Should be interesting.

Hey LithiumFlame what size stepper motors are you using with your g540 driver? Those drives can only handle 3.5A so I'm guessing your looking at stepper motors with torque around the 425 oz/in? Do you know how to calculate the size of motor needed? Are you going to be gearing your mill or just direct drive?

I like the sound of a dust collector hehehe

Cheers.

Hey,

Im going to be using nema 23's and direct drive with a 5 start lead screw/rod. Each motor is right at 3.5 Amps :)

Hi your machine is looking super nice! Did you fabricated all those aluminium pieces? Or did you buy them....if you did buy them, could you tell me where from .... Cheers.

This is my latest picture.

Negative, I ordered most of them from cncrouterparts.com. Very cheap and effective. (the carriages) The cold rolled rails I drilled myself and got em from onlinemetals.com

The 8020 from the 8020 ebay store, also tapped, cut, and drilled myself. Some odds and ends from mcmastercarr.com like the acme rods and drill rod for the couplings. This is an open source project from finelineautomation.com, the "fla-100". My next cnc due in a few years when needs arise will be fully designed by myself with cnc'ed parts from this machine. also, I will be using rack and pinion on the next machine. I like the acme screws but the R&P is beauty in simplicity.

I may also make my own 3d printer. One step at a time though. First need to start making some chips! (soon!!!!!)
