@greenspree: that's fantastic! I like raised beds a lot, though we don't have any at the moment, you can turn them into cold frames very easily...don't know how cold it gets over there for you, but cold frames extend the growing season beautifully in colder climes. You'll be so happy with the chickens! There is nothing like chickens eating green grass and crickets to make bright orange yolks that stand tall on your plate. :D

I'll be more stoked about them eating the slugs that get my lettuce every year!

@greenspree: Yeah, I hear you. Nasty little buggers. Have you ever tried diatomaceous earth in combatting slugs? We have sprinkled a thick layer (barrier style) around our rows of lettuce and beans and have had no problems to date. :D
