We have a walnut(or is it almond?) tree in the backyard that we're cutting down. The trunk of it is a good half foot in diameter so I thought it would be good for making a table. But I don't have any proper equipment to cut the wood into anything to work with. Just about everything I have are hand tools so cutting a straight piece of wood would be hard.
I was thinking about getting some piece of metal to build a makeshift "chainsaw lumber mill" and use a hand saw instead. The metal could be used to make the joints for the table too! Basically, I'd make a rectangular frame with the metal, fixate it to the piece of wood, and cut with the handsaw against the frame. Does anyone have anything to say against that? Am I forgetting any small details? I still have to draw up the plans for the table, but I'd like to get an idea for how to cut the wood for working with first. I'd take a picture of the tree, but it's dark out right now.
